It's all about to end...

Well, maybe, and maybe not.

It seems that the experiment with the worlds largest-ever built particle accelerator is going to be taking place sometime later tonight (my local time) from what I've heard. In theory, this could create a black hole and swallow the entire Earth, if not the solar system, and the rest of the universe.

What does this mean to you and me? Well, in all honesty, not much. There's two possibilities here...

  1. The experiment goes as planned and everyone ends up slapping backs after smashing these sub-atomic particles into each other at almost the speed of light.
  2. The experiment goes as the critics see it, tiny black holes are created and they suck in all matter around them, meaning that the Earth is sucked into it, and we all die instantly as we are compressed into a singularity in the centre of the black hole.
Personally, I think that option 1 is going to happen. I can't see that the scientists are going to risk that much, even if they are so excited about what they are doing.

Then again, if I'm wrong, we'll never know. We'll all just blink out of existence. We'll never know, we'll just all "cease to be".

So, tonight let's party like it's the end of the world. You just never know... there might not be any work left to go to tomorrow!
